The SHINE project has reached a key point in its timeline. After completing the first stage of capacity building, one of the main results is now ready: the SHINE Online Platform.
One of the main goals of SHINE is to strengthen the skills of teachers in Vocational Education and Training (VET) so they can prepare students for a labour market that is becoming greener, more digital and more entrepreneurial. To achieve this, SHINE is developing practical tools and training opportunities that combine technical knowledge with innovative teaching methods.
A central element of this effort is the online platform developed by Zubigune Fundazioa. which has now been piloted and refined during the first stage of capacity building.
What is the SHINE Online Platform?
The platform is a digital training tool that supports VET teachers in Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria. It brings together content in three key areas:
⚡ Solar photovoltaic systems – from energy basics to installation and maintenance.
💻 Digitalisation – integrating digital tools and competences into teaching.
🚀 Entrepreneurship – helping teachers guide students to turn ideas into projects.
Beyond technical training, the platform introduces challenge-based learning inspired by the Ethazi methodology. a model promoted by Tknika, the Basque VET Applied Research Centre. This ensures that teachers and students work with real-life challenges connected to the world of work.

What has been done so far?
The first version of the platform was tested with three teachers from each partner school in Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria. They combined online modules with a training mobility in the Basque Country, hosted by CIFP Usurbil LHII and Zubigune.
Their feedback was used to adapt the platform’s content and make it practical for classroom realities. This phase represents an important step forward in SHINE’s timeline, linking the project’s research stage with real implementation.
Why is it relevant?
The platform directly addresses three needs of VET systems in Africa:
Updated technical competences in renewable energy.
Stronger digital skills for teachers and learners.
Promotion of entrepreneurship as part of VET.
For schools and institutions, this means better trained staff, innovative methods, and students with competences that respond to today’s labour market.
What comes next?
The platform is now ready to be rolled out with students in the partner schools, guided by the teachers who already tested it. This transition will multiply the impact, moving from teacher training to direct learning for students.
The SHINE Online Platform will also be available for other organisations that want to integrate it into their training offer and join the SHINE network.
